Hey guys, I took down the pictures from the YMCA today. If you want a copy of them let me know.

Here is the flyer I came up with, I have been busy the past couple days, but I could probably do a couple more if we are short on designs. Kevin and Ally, yours look good, so I'm sure we will be able to find at least a couple designs that would encourage people to volunteer, way to go team :)
I couldn't get my flyer designs to upload. I just e-mailed them to everyone. See you guys at the meeting tonight!

Leadership Lecture Handout

Hey guys here's our leadership handout that we used during our lecture presentation. Everybody did a great job. I think that the class really liked the class activity too.

LEADERSHIP THAT GETS RESULTS

Information gathered from Daniel Goleman’s Harvard Business Review article, “Leadership That Gets Results”. Goleman based his findings from research conducted by Hay/McBer Consulting of 3,871 business executives.

THE PROBLEM
  • Managers fail to see the impact organizational climate has on financial results
  • Organizational climate is influenced by leadership style
  • Each leadership style is effective only for certain business situations
  • Managers often don’t exhibit all necessary leadership styles

THE THEORY
  • Business situations call for certain leadership styles for a successful outcome
  • Leaders need competence in all leadership styles
  • The ability to fluidly switch between styles based on the situation is crucial

CLASS ACTIVITY

For the following situations, brainstorm leadership styles that would be effective in correcting the problem. Offer examples of plans of action for each.

After the economic collapse and bailout of GM, a new CEO was hired. Thousands of employees have been laid off, and many current employees are scared for their jobs. Morale is low throughout the company and the recent layoffs have left a taste of distrust in the mouths of employees. The company has been running “fat” for years and needs fresh ideas to lean out the business and improve profits. Much of the company feels that their voices have not been heard in the past and that their ideas could help the situation. What leadership styles could the new CEO implement?

Fall Party

My group really enjoyed themselves too! The girls all liked the face painting station (some of them even wanted a second one, but we didnt have time), but I think the most favorite station (possibly of all the groups) was the candy fishing station. It was fun to see the kids cast the lines and get excited when there was a fish with candy on the line when they pulled it back. Hopefully we can get enough people interested in doing this in the coming years so that these kids can enjoy more Fall parties!

Fall Party

Our fall party at the YMCA went really well.  We got everything set up and organized on time.  We ended up having around twenty-five kids and had ourselves plus some of our friends to help.  Four of us took groups of kids around to each station while the other volunteers helped at each station and made sure things went smoothly.  The kids all seemed to have a lot of fun.  The kids in my group were really excited about the prizes and having things to take home with them.  One of the YMCA workers told me that she hadn't seen them so happy in a really long time.  It was really fun!

The Party

I talked to Alyssa at the YMCA today. Alyssa is the head of the Kid's construction Company. She told me that it would be fine to arrive at 2:45 and that there would be a few over 30 kids at the party. I have all of our materials at my apartment and ready to go over to the Y. Please make sure that all of the people who have said they would help with the party are going to be able to still come with us. We'll need to get out of class tomorrow by about 2:15 to make it to the Y in time to set up before the party at 3:30. See you all in class tomorrow.
